Rel 211- Week 5

One of the things I've been thinking about this past week was what Matthew 25:35-40 has taught me. In Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus states that "the least of these," which includes feeding the hungry and providing for those in need, are all ways that we serve him. These verses encourage me as I reflect on how significant kindness and service are within the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are times where I feel like my service efforts are insignificant. It's easy to feel like unless we're accomplishing something monumental or changing lives, then nothing is being accomplished. However, these verses remind me that Christ sees everything we do-even if it's just the simplest, smallest efforts. A simple act such as offering a kind word, making someone a meal, taking time to listen to someone who is struggling, or simply helping someone see that they are not completely alone can have an incredible amount of influence than you would ever imagine. The way Jesus Christ ministered to people is very interesting to me. The majority of His service was individualized. Although there were many people who followed Him, he still made the time to console, heal, teach and show love to each person individually. This example of Jesus reminds me that although service does not have to be large-scale or public, some of the most impactful services happen daily in the simplest of ways through interactions with your family members, friends, neighbors or even strangers. I also believe that service affects us personally. In the past, I have felt closer to Jesus Christ while assisting someone else. Service makes us more patient, more compassionate and more aware of the needs surrounding us; and more like our Savior. In today's world where at times it feels like things are becoming increasingly divisive and difficult, it is evident to me that small acts of kindness are truly important. Whether we will ever understand the full extent of the blessings that our service brings to another person, I firmly believe Christ does.
